Introduction about the Indian Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC)

Indian Dispute Resolution Centre, IDRC is a not-for-profit initiative of 'International Dispute Resolution Council' dedicated to provide an institutional environment, both online and offline, for the resolution of all kinds of disputes in an efficient, professional, time-bound and cost-effective manner.

The IDRC is registered with NITI Aayog for carrying out Legal Education, Literacy, awareness, Vocational Training and like.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:

  • Define what is meant by the term ‘Domestic Arbitration’.
  • Identify, explain and apply the legal procedural principles, rules and agreements relevant to the conduct of a domestic arbitration:
  • The legal framework, including limitations of matters that may be legally arbitrated;
  • The methods of initiating and processing an arbitration;
  • Evaluate and apply the principles and legal requirements of a domestic arbitration law

1. Ciccu  Mukhopadhaya, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India

Ciccu Mukhopadhaya has been in practice since 1986 and worked with Dr. L.M. Singhvi, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India. He has been a Senior Partner & Country Head (Litigation & Dispute Resolution) in Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co.. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in the year 2011. He represented a large number of private and public sector corporations, including several multinationals, in various litigations, arbitration and corporate matters; • Litigation experience includes both constitutional and commercial matters, before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts, Civil Courts, the Company Law Board, the MRTP Commission (Competition law), etc. 

Ciccu Sir is one of the most sought-after names in the field of domestic and international commercial arbitrations, both ad hoc and institutional, including arbitrations under the ICC Rules, the LCIA Rules, SIAC, UNCITRAL, etc. The subject matters range from company-shareholder disputes, infrastructure projects, construction, oil & gas contracts, PPAs, trade and shipping disputes, etc. He has also acted in court proceedings relating to arbitration agreements, e.g., proceedings for reference to arbitration, grant of interim measures of protection, post-award challenge and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards, etc.

Tejas Karia is a partner and head of the arbitration practice at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. He has wide experience in handling international and domestic commercial arbitrations across sectors involving disputes relating to oil and gas, shareholders’ agreements, joint ventures, construction and infrastructure, insurance, real estate and private equity. He has represented multinational and Indian corporations in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations involving major arbitration institutions such as the LCIA, the ICC, the ICA, the ICADR, the RSA, the ICDR and the SIAC, seated in India, Paris, London and Singapore.

3. Mr. Ratan K Singh, Senior Advocate and Arbitrator, International Member, Keating Chambers

Ratan K Singh is a Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of India. He is one of the leading arbitrators and counsels who is appointed and engaged in complex, high-value commercial litigation and arbitration. With about 25 years of experience, he has a heavyweight practice in India, as well as internationally, with specialities in construction, engineering, infrastructure, mining, and general commercial and civil disputes.

Ratan has also received numerous arbitral appointments as chair, wing arbitrator and has represented parties in complex, high-value domestic and international arbitrations. He has a broad experience in international arbitration under the rules of the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC), UNCITRAL, Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA), Delhi International Arbitration Center (DIAC), Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA), Indian Council of Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (ICADR), and others.

4. Dr. Shashwat Bajpai, Founder-Partner, Law Chambers of Dr. Shashwat Bajpai

Dr. Shashwat Bajpai has completed his Master’s degree from the University of Oxford, UK, where he specialized in Corporate Business Taxation and Arbitration. He holds a Ph.D. degree from the National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) in Transfer Pricing & International Taxation.

His areas of expertise and regular practice areas include Arbitration, Civil Disputes, Corporate/Company Laws, Direct & International Taxation, Transfer Pricing and Telecom Law.

He is a member of the Indian Fiscal Association (IFA) and a life-member of ICA (Indian Council for Arbitration), Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA), Income Tax Appellate Bar Association (ITAT Bar), National Company Law Tribunal Bar Association (NCLTBA).
